You are probably amazed that
bamboo is used as a hardwood for flooring to begin
with. Who knew there were some many variances in
bamboo flooring? Well, bamboo flooring is not a new
concept, but it is more popular than ever do to the
need and desire to become more green and
eco-friendly. Others reading this may be wondering
why we ever used up all that forest wood to make
hardwood floors at all since bamboo is stronger than
most hard woods. Whatever your feelings are, this
article will point out a few things you should know
about strand woven bamboo flooring.
Strand woven bamboo flooring is
a great option for several reasons. Even if you took
the environmental pluses out of the equation, strand
woven bamboo flooring would still be a good choice
for your home, office or any other area you need
quality flooring in.
The first reason for this is
price. Strand woven bamboo flooring is considerably
less expensive than most other hardwood flooring
available today. Hello, not to mention it is
stronger than most (many times up to 25% stronger).
Bamboo grows easily in a wide range of climates,
making it readily available all over the planet. It
grows fast, covering approximately 40 million
hectares of our planet. Consider that about the same
amount of deforestation has taken place since 2000
worldwide. The large quantity of bamboo and bamboo
products manages a continual affordable price for
bamboo and that it just wonderful.
As far as strength goes, strand
woven bamboo flooring is just as durable, tough,
strong and lasting as traditional hardwood flooring
is. Better yet, strand woven bamboo flooring has a
Janka Hardness Rating that rates at more than 2,500
pounds force. This rating makes strand woven bamboo
harder than most any other North American hard wood
offering. Needless to say, strand woven bamboo on
your floor surface is more than hard enough to stand
up to high traffic needs.
As far as aesthetics go, it looks beautiful, and
commands compliments from anyone visiting your home
or office. Strand woven bamboo flooring has that
same organic, granular look and feel to it that
makes hardwood flooring popular to begin
with.
It gets even better; strand woven bamboo flooring
is allergen free. No mites here. Bamboo flooring is
also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and
anti-microbial. This is a delight for consumers
suffering from asthma and
allergies.
Bamboo flooring has become an attractive upgrade
to home value. The days where traditional hardwood
floor were the selling feature are long gone.
Consumers are demanding more eco-friendly
alternatives throughout home construction.
Seriously, it is hard to find any reason why you
wouldn’t opt for strand woven bamboo flooring in
your home, office or anywhere else. It is
eco-friendly, sustainable, renewable, and no forest
has to suffer loss from making strand woven bamboo
products. It even grows clean and green! It doesn’t
require a lot of water, chemicals or pesticides to
produce and does not deplete the soil in the ground
around it. Adding a guilt free product to your home
such as strand woven bamboo flooring helps
tremendously create a better planet to live on where
stability in the environment is at hand.
Facts about Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring
(versus other types)
Now that you know the basics of your typical
bamboo flooring, this part of the article is going
to discuss in more detail about strand woven bamboo
flooring versus typical bamboo flooring and other
types of hardwoods. Typically, a hard wood flooring
plank could actually be one piece of wood shaped
from a hard wood tree variation such as oak. By
trimming off wood to create a one-piece section, you
create a huge amount of waste (shavings and extra
cut off pieces). Many times this wasteful process
adds up to 60% loss. Seriously, that’s tragic. 60%
of the wood not even used?
When strand woven bamboo flooring is made most
all of the bamboo is used. It is literally ground
into bamboo pulp and then (eco-friendly) produced
under extreme heat and pressure creating a massively
hard wood product. This woven technique literally
incorporates woven strands of bamboo into the plank
creating the finished product. Just how strong is
this type of flooring? As stated earlier it carries
a Janka Hardness Rating of 2500-2600 pounds of
force. This is a whopping 2 times stronger than
typical bamboo hardwood flooring even, not to
mention traditional hardwood flooring. While we know
that bamboo grows just about anywhere and
everywhere, it is prevalent in China, which is where
bamboo flooring companies get their supply whether
making strand woven bamboo or not. Another
interesting fact to consider when you consider new
flooring for your home is that bamboo grows to full
harvesting potential in about 4 years.
Now, we will tell you that bamboo flooring does
not waste nearly as much shavings and cut pieces as
hardwood flooring does during the processing stage.
Additionally even typical bamboo flooring product
processing is much more eco-friendly than say
processing oak does. But, strand woven bamboo
flooring is superior. Many bamboo flooring companies
sell this type of bamboo flooring in several stains
and styles.
